The Importance of Family
Today for the final bank holiday of the year I decided that instead of drowning in the work I have to do, I would down tools and enjoy a day in the sun with family. What occurred to me throughout the day was how important it is to appreciate what you have. What makes the perfect family? Well, as you know, perfect isn’t real and real isn’t perfect. So how can we be happy with what we have and therefore have it all?
Divorced at 27 and now in a relationship with someone who has a child, in my view, family isn’t defined by only last names or blood. It is so much more than that. To me, it’s about energy. It means making a conscious choice to choose each other every single day and through doing this, allowing your energy to connect and remain connected.
Family isn’t always as we imagined it would be. Fairytales gave us a warped view on how it’s meant to be from the very first time we were read a bedtime story. However, if you can switch your perspective and trust that what’s meant for you will come to you and learn to appreciate the family you have right now, you will find that special connection and when you do, you can hold onto it.
That energy is what will see you through anything that is thrown your way. Think of them as your home team, the ones who will always have your back no matter what.
Don’t force it, and don’t feel bad about yourself if your commitment isn’t reciprocated. Sometimes, just sometimes, something just isn’t meant to be, and that is ok.
By letting go graciously you will make room for the right energy for you to connect and bring heartfelt happiness. Sometimes that’s 2.4 children, and sometimes it’s not, but your family is YOUR family and that is pretty special.
This, is happiness in a photograph. Kev’s cousin, his wife and their gorgeous son. Every photo tells a story and this one shows how magical it can be when energy is in the right place at the right time. It’s not always easy, life will throw crap at everyone, it’s part of the ride, but I tell you what, it is ALWAYS worth it.
If you want to change your world, go home and love your family…. Whoever they may be. Don’t waste a second wishing it was any different.
Cherish them, squeeze them and be grateful.
Don’t just focus on right now, focus on what’s RIGHT now
