Find the blessing in every difficult situation
This photo was taken at my best friends wedding a few years back and was 19 days after my own marriage broke down.
I was sleeping on my parents sofa and had just received a voicemail from my ex husband regarding money of mine he wanted. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Everyone was worried for me, wondering how I would cope but one thing I’ve always been good at is finding perspective when things are really bad. Having faith that things will work out is a huge part of what allows us to let go of what isn’t meant for us. If we hold on to any kind of anger, we prevent ourselves from receiving what other things are meant for us and those things might be wonderful!
On that day, I was so happy. Not one part of me felt angry, bitter or lonely. I remember embracing other feelings such as freedom, the chance to start fresh and the fact I was lucky enough to share this special day with my best friend. So many other people in the world are suffering in so many other ways it seemed silly to be so down hearted about something that in reality just ‘wasn’t meant for me’ it was as simple as that.
Living back at home with parents helped. I’d remember waking up, seeing my Mum get up positive every day in spite of her terminal illness and think ‘how blessed am I that all i have to worry about is a divorce and losing the house!’ She is such an inspiration. Having a positive mental attitude is a lot about gaining perspective when you become blinkered by your own hardships.
Whenever life takes you on a detour to somewhere that wasn’t part of the plan, try not to resist it, but to embrace it. We are all born with a journey ahead of us, with different lessons to learn along the way, and it is those experiences that make us who were are. When something feels wrong; it’s because it is. You have to trust in who you are because you have all you need already to be happy.
