The Happy Me Project

The Happy Me Project meets @grandmother_pukka

Meet Lucia aka @grandmother_pukka

When I launched ‘The Bee’s Knees’ it was because I felt mindfulness was being a little lost in a trend; a fad that meant it was deemed a good thing to practise ‘Wellness’. The kind of mindful approach I’ve always known and loved, is the back to basics approach. It’s living life like it was before followers, filters, diets, 2 week transformations, 3986 TV stations (the list goes on). Taking pleasure in things such as sitting in the garden in the sunshine, or cracking into a fresh loaf of bread are things that are, to me, wellbeing. Lucia @grandmother_pukka is one of my favourite people on Instagram for this very reason. She literally IS the bee’s knees. Full of laughter and love for the simple pleasures in life. She polite, well mannered, beautifully spoken and positive in every sense of the word. Her stories and posts are often simple in their message, but send a ripple of warmth across all those who see them. Lucia has an ability to make you feel content without having to preach about what it is to be content. Reading her take on happiness has just further cemented my love for her. The world really does need for Instagrans!

Life In A Snapshot

Retired and agreed to support Anna (Mother Pukka) hence Grandmother Pukka the Instagran on Instagram was born.  Trying to enjoy life to the full and making the most of it!  Born in the Netherlands the youngest of 8!  Came to the UK as an au-pair and met Chris (Grandfather Pukka) in the pub whilst wearing a large floppy hat which reminded him of a mushroom!  Now I am still here …… his au pair!! My only mode of transport was a bike without brakes – highly dangerous on the hilly surroundings and shoes as brakes are ruinous

What makes you the happiest?

To be surrounded by the Pukka clan. Travelling and going to London for entertainment. Listening to music whether it is jazz, soul, sounds of the 60s (BBC Saturday mornings with Tony Blackburn) or opera.  Meeting with my “hardly” girlfriends on a regular basis. Well….we are hardly girls!

Who is your happy person?

Grandfather Pukka who makes me laugh

How do you reset on a bad day?

Take a deep breath – dig deep – get going.

When it is time to stop and take check?

When I start swearing in Dutch!!

How do you nourish your mind and body? What does ‘nourishment’ mean to you?

Nourishment means eating and drinking sensibly and leading a life without too much stress.  Laugh – floss (look after your teeth!) – dance!!  Look after yourself.

Reflecting on the hardest time in your own

life, what practical steps did you take to get you back on a happier pathway?

Go out on my bike and listen to birds, admire the wildlife and nature. Listen to my favourite 60s music. Eat broccoli!

What is ‘happiness’ defined by you?

To enjoy your family, to be fit and healthy and capable of enjoying life and not worry about every penny I spend.

Mantra you live by

”Live up to your height” (in my case) and live life to the full.

Favourite place in the world-  Baggy Point near Croyde Bay Devon

Biggest strength? Self belief and confidence.

Biggest weakness? Trying to please everyone.

Nicknames? Big Bird

Guilty pleasure?  Sambuca Fridays!

Song of the moment?  Happy by Pharrell Williams – never get tired of it.
